The recovery of the tourism sector in Turkey .. and 1.8 million visitors last month

Official data revealed, on Friday, that the number of foreign tourists arriving in Turkey reached nearly 1.8 million in November, following an upward trend for nine consecutive months, according to the Turkish newspaper, Daily Sabah.

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said they aim to generate $34.5 billion in tourism revenues next year.

In statements to Anatolia, Ersoy pointed out that the Corona virus epidemic, which affected the entire world, caused uncertainty regarding tourism this year.

He said, "Tourism revenues in 2020 amounted to 12 billion dollars, and at the beginning of this year we had set the goal of achieving a 100 percent increase, and it was difficult, but this number was achieved by the end of this year."

He pointed out that 2019 witnessed a record year in revenues that reached $34.5 billion and 51.7 million visitors, adding that "our first goal is to achieve 2019 figures in revenues with rapid growth."

For his part, the head of the Federation of Turkish Travel Agencies, Firuz Bagli Kaya, said that they expect early tourist bookings to reach the level of 10 million during 2022.

Speaking to Anatolia, he added that Turkey was one of the countries in which the tourism sector returned to normal early, after the Corona epidemic period.

He explained that their expectations about the 2022 tourist season indicate that they are close to the numbers of 2019, that is, before Corona.

He pointed out that current indicators show that the tourism sector will witness record numbers for several years in a row, starting from 2023.

He stressed that early reservations are currently continuing from many countries, most notably Britain, Germany, Ukraine and Russia.

He stated that they had recently launched a campaign to encourage early bookings, which is expected to reach 10 million people over the next year.
